Hi friends! Today I’m excited to share one of my three new prints I recently designed. Marble Swirl is inspired by the natural look of marble and the allure of abstract brush strokes. I ran with the inspiration and created a new pattern in five colorways. This pattern is available in multiple kinds of fabrics in my shop on Spoonflower!
Notice one of the colorways is Pantone’s Color of the Year! I made fabric book covers out of one yard of cotton poplin in Marble Swirl in Classic Blue.
Look closely, you can see these book covers are really easy to make!
Supplies you’ll need to create four book covers: 1 yard of cotton fabric (I used this pattern in classic blue); roll of craft/banner paper; spray adhesive; iron & ironing board; fabric scissors; paper scissors; books.
First, press the cotton fabric to remove any wrinkles.
Using the book as your guide, cut the craft paper with regular scissors so that it is 2 inches bigger than the spine on each side and one inch bigger than the top and bottom of the book. Cut the fabric with fabric scissors to one inch bigger than the paper so it folds around the paper. Use a light spray of adhesive on the paper and layer the fabric on top, print side out. Smooth with fingers to remove any bubbles.
Use the book to form a crease in the top and bottom of the paper. With a thin line of spray adhesive in the crease, fold the fabric/paper over so that it meets the edge of the top and bottom of the book. Do the same for the ends where you’ll form the foldover flap and tuck in any corners.
As a last step, wrap the cover around the book and use the edges to form the flaps. That’s it, easy peasy.
Don’t worry if your covers are imperfect. You really just need the spine to look cool and and tops if you’re doing a stack. I made a second set with one yard of Marble Swirl in Greige.
Choose any great fabric and you’ll have a decorative addition to any bookshelf!
The new Marble Swirl print is available in five colors!
